We Accomodate and Customize for Families
There is something special about experiencing a new place with people from different generations. Travel can also create opportunities for connection that everyday life doesn't always allow. Away from school, work, household responsibilities, and busy schedules, families have time to talk, laugh, explore, and simply be together. When generations travel together, families can pool resources to create a more personalized, comfortable vacation that might otherwise be difficult to arrange for one household alone. A safari can also be a wonderful way to give a meaningful experience rather than another traditional gift.
At Moyo, "tented" does not mean giving up the comforts that make a vacation enjoyable. Our spacious safari tents feature private ensuite bathrooms with flushing toilets and hot showers. For grandparents, having a private bathroom and hot shower right inside the tent can make a significant difference after a long day of game viewing. For parents traveling with younger children, it means having a comfortable, private space for bedtime routines, middle-of-the-night wake-ups, and getting everyone ready for the next day's adventure. It is one of the luxuries that makes Moyo especially well suited to families.
Large families often have different needs when it comes to sleeping arrangements. Grandparents may prefer their own space, parents may want to be close to their children, and older children may be ready for a little more independence. Moyo can work with families to arrange the configuration of beds and tents to suit their group, depending on the specific camp and availability. Families can discuss their needs with the Moyo team when planning their stay so that accommodations are arranged thoughtfully from the beginning.
For a particularly special family vacation, larger groups may also consider booking an entire camp exclusively for their family. Having the camp to yourselves creates a wonderfully private atmosphere and allows the shared spaces to become your family's home in the Serengeti. One of the great advantages of traveling as a family group is that everyone doesn't have to experience the safari in exactly the same way. Some family members may want a long morning game drive and spend hours watching a pride of lions. Others may prefer a slower start, a leisurely breakfast, or time relaxing at camp. A thoughtful itinerary can accommodate those differences. Moyo can help families plan a safari around their interests, ages, energy levels, and priorities. The goal isn't to make everyone follow the same schedule, it is to create shared experiences while leaving room for everyone to enjoy the trip in their own way.

The Serengeti is a wilderness, and wildlife can move through the area around camp. That is part of what makes staying at Moyo so exciting, but it also means that families need to follow appropriate camp safety procedures. Moyo staff are attentive to the needs of guests of all ages and can escort guests to and from their tents after dark. This can be particularly helpful for older family members who would appreciate assistance walking around camp, as well as families with younger children. Children can experience the thrill of sleeping in the African wilderness while parents have the reassurance that staff are available to help them navigate camp safely.

When Is the Best Time for a Large Family?
June - October: Excellent Wildlife Viewing
The dry season is one of the most popular times to visit the Serengeti. Wildlife viewing can be excellent, temperatures are generally comfortable, and animals are often easier to spot against the drier vegetation. Because this is peak safari season, however, families interested in reserving an entire camp should plan well in advance.
November - December: Green, Beautiful and Quieter
The short rains transform the Serengeti into a lush, green landscape. There are generally fewer tourists than during the peak season, and birdlife is particularly rewarding. For a family prioritizing privacy, beautiful scenery, and a more peaceful safari atmosphere, November and December can be especially appealing.
January - March: Calving Season and New Life
For families interested in seeing the Serengeti at one of its most dramatic times, January through March brings the annual wildebeest calving season to the southern Serengeti ecosystem. This can be an extraordinary time for families with children and grandchildren. There is a sense of new life everywhere, with newborn animals, predators taking advantage of abundant prey, and enormous herds spread across the plains. It is also a popular period, so families hoping to reserve an entire camp should begin planning early.
April - May: For Families Seeking Privacy
The long rains bring vibrant green landscapes and fewer visitors. Rain showers are more likely, so families need to be comfortable with some flexibility, but those willing to embrace the changing weather can enjoy a wonderfully peaceful Serengeti experience.
