October at Camp Hembe

“From the moment we arrived at Moyo Camp Hembe, everything felt effortless and magical.”
— October 2026 Camp Hembe Guest from France

October is a wonderful time to experience the central Serengeti, when golden grasslands, dramatic rocky outcrops, and abundant resident wildlife create a classic safari setting.

October's Landscape

As the dry season progresses, grasses turn golden, vegetation becomes sparser in many areas, and wildlife can be easier to spot across the open plains. The Serengeti's distinctive kopjes provide shelter for smaller creatures and resting places for lions, while acacia trees offer food for giraffes and habitat for birds. Although October can bring dusty conditions and warm afternoons, the landscape remains full of life, with beautiful light for photography during early mornings and late afternoons.

October Wildlife Highlights

The central Serengeti is renowned for its resident wildlife, making October an exciting time to look for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and gazelles. Spotted hyenas are another fascinating species to watch, particularly when resting in the shade or interacting with other members of their clan. One family visiting Moyo Camp Hembe in September 2026 described watching a hyena resting beneath a tree, with two others nearby, for approximately 45 minutes. Encounters like this offer a rewarding reminder that patience can lead to extraordinary wildlife experiences.

October can also bring migratory birds arriving ahead of the wetter season, adding to the region's already diverse birdlife. Meanwhile, the movement of the Great Migration varies with grazing conditions and rainfall, with herds often found farther north during this period. Hembe's central location makes it an appealing base for discovering resident wildlife and the distinctive landscapes of the Serengeti.

October Magic at Camp

After a day exploring the plains, guests can return to comfortable accommodation with warm wooden finishes, inviting interiors, and views of the surrounding savannah. Thoughtfully prepared meals and attentive service add to the experience, while peaceful evenings offer time to enjoy the sunset, listen to the sounds of the wilderness, and take in the African night sky.

October can be an excellent month for travelers seeking classic dry-season scenery and opportunities to observe the Serengeti's resident wildlife. Conditions can be warm and dusty, and sightings depend on animal movements and local weather, but the combination of striking landscapes, intimate hospitality, and the possibility of unexpected encounters makes Hembe a memorable safari destination.

October Guest Reviews:

A Magic Experience at Moyo Hembe

A dream stay in the heart of the savannah — Moyo Hembe exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived at Moyo Hembe, everything felt effortless and magical. The accommodation. The rental units are simply beautiful: warm wood floors, a gorgeous shower, and a design that blends comfort with an authentic connection to the surroundings. Falling asleep and waking up to views across the savannah was a daily highlight in itself. The food. The daily menu was clearly prepared with care — fresh, healthy, and thoughtfully put together each day. You can tell the kitchen takes genuine pride in what they serve. The people — the true game changer. I traveled with my two children, and what set this place apart was the staff's constant, unobtrusive attentiveness. They always kept an eye on the kids' safety and comfort without ever being intrusive. One evening captures it perfectly. I noticed a fire pit outside and casually asked about it. Within five minutes, Lydia, the team lead, had assembled the wood and arranged comfortable chairs around a crackling fire. What followed was completely unplanned and completely unforgettable: a golden sunset in front of the flames, and — at the kids' delighted request — a table set up by the staff so we could enjoy our dinner right there, in the middle of nature. The magic didn't stop there. One of the staff came by on his rounds to check on the animals and spotted two hyenas in the distance. We watched them from complete safety — no danger at all, just a rare and thrilling glimpse of the wild. It was pure magic. The verdict. I can wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful place — for the setting, for the comfort, and above all for the exceptional care of the staff, and especially Lydia. If you're looking for a stay where you feel genuinely looked after while surrounded by stunning nature, this is it.

An Unforgettable Wildlife Experience

We stayed at the Moyo Hembe Tented. We loved it because it is a small lodge with about ten really beautiful tents. Being used to safaris because my husband is Tanzanian and has a local agency, I had one of my most beautiful experiences with wildlife. In the morning while I was rolling up the tent flap, a worker asked me if I wanted to come see a hyena. I thought he was joking and I followed him. Right next to the path, about 15 meters away, a hyena was resting under a tree. Further away there were 2 others. My husband and my one-year-old daughter as well as my parents joined us and we observed the hyena under the tree for 45 minutes. A truly magical moment. My husband has already had several clients stay at Moyo Warangi camp and everyone loved it. At the end of the month, two of his clients will also stay at Moyo Hembe. My only regret is having stayed only one night at this lodge 😅. We will return with great pleasure to your place. Furthermore, all the employees are really kind, the food excellent. See you soon
